Review // Priscilla, Queen of the Desert

Last night we were thrilled to be invited to see Priscilla, Queen of the Desert. I remember watching the film years ago and wondered how I would feel seeing it on stage.

I needn’t have been worried! The show was absolutely stunning. From the casting to the production everything about this show made me beam from ear to ear throughout.

Every part of the show felt flawless. From singalong dance floor filler songs (think dance tracks from Kylie, The Weather Girls and more) to more hard hitting points – showing trans and homophobia – this show had everything I expected and more.

Joe McFadden plays Tick/Mitzi. I was looking forward to see how he has transferred from screen to stage (huge Holby Fan here!) and he absolute owned the role. He was vibrant and came across as throughly enjoying the performance throughout.

Nick Hayes who plays Felicia was full of sass and humour but also took on the hard role of showing homophobia in action bringing a dark element to the show – but a relevant point to make when transphobic and homophobic attacks are rising.

Miles Western played transgender Bernadette and his performance was absolutely stunning. He owned the stage with class and style (and some sass too).

The singing talent on the stage blew me away and a special word has to be said for the Diva’s who had the most incredible voices!

If you’re looking for something fun and all the happy feels for Christmas I would highly recommend going to see this show!

Priscilla runs at Theatre Royal Brighton from 17th December 2019 to 4th January 2020. Tickets start from £13 and can be found here.
