Improve The Value Of Your Home In 5 Simple Steps

One of the smartest things that you can do when you own a home is to look after it and invest in the right areas – this will make the value of your house rise.

Properties always tend to be a good investment, because unlike a car where the value drastically drops after a few years – houses go up, and if you play your cards right, it could end up being the best investment you’ve ever made.

Here are all the ways you can do that.

Have a basement conversion

This will cost you the most because there is a tonne of work that goes into it. Basement conversions aren’t an easy job, so you will need to call in the big gun specialists to do the design and installation. It will take a good few months too, and you most likely won’t be able to stay there while the work is being done, so take this into consideration. Having said that, the opportunities once it has been done, are endless. You can use the space for virtually anything, from another bedroom, luxury bathroom, an office or even a home gym.

Build a conservatory

There’s a very fine line between a good conservatory and a bad one. This is because a lot of the time, they just end up looking like a random box that has been stuck on the back of your house – you don’t want this. It should flow and look a part of your home instead. A good trick for this is by giving it the same flooring as the room that it is connected to – that will just join everything together.

Get your loft converted

One of the easiest ways to get an extra room out of your house – whether that be another bedroom or bathroom – is to convert the loft. Technically the room is already there, so most of the work will be from the outside with the help of some decent roofers.

You will also have to strengthen the floors so you don’t worry about falling through, but doing this will raise the floor level, so it’s important you leave enough ceiling height to be able to stand up properly.

Get rid of the garage

Believe it or not, 90% of British garages don’t have a car inside them, meaning they are wasted on holding all the junk you own that you can’t bring yourself to throw away. Sure, storage is important, but do you really need all the things that are locked in your garage? – Instead, turn it into living space.

Paint the house

When you eventually put your house up for sale, you need to be able to get the buyer through the front door, meaning you need to draw them from the outside in. This can be done with a fresh coat of paint to make it look new. Another great trick is to look at your neighbour’s houses, and just do whatever you can to make yours look better, like cleaning up the driveway and giving your windows a good scrub.
