How To Have A Stress-Free Move

You’re probably well aware that moving house is right up near the top of the most stressful parts of life that a person can go through. Though it may seem straightforward at first, the more you think about it, the more you realise how much there actually is to think about! In today’s world, more and more people are moving on a regular basis. This means that it’s unlikely to be something you will go through only once. Whether you are going through this process for the first time or have been through it a number of times in the past, take a look at some of the top things to consider before moving home.

Who To Tell

Your list of who you need to tell about your move will extend beyond just your close friends and family. It will include credit card companies, banks, energy providers, the council, your cable provider and your doctor, to name but a few. Start by making an actual physical list of every person or organisation you can think of. It’s then time to start the arduous process of actually informing each one of them, But once you’ve sorted it, it’s a big weight off your mind.

The Moving Process

Make sure everything is packed up extremely well. If you are not all that experienced yourself, it may well be worth it done professionally. Check out different moving companies to make sure you are happy with your choice. You will have a whole load of possessions that you don’t want to see damaged, so choosing the right business is essential. Double check that all your furniture will actually fit in your new place. Label all your boxes carefully, and even consider using a colour coding system depending on the room (bedroom, bathroom etc) if you are particularly organised!

The moving process provides you the perfect opportunity to declutter and clear out anything you no longer need. It’s the ideal time to do this, and you may well uncover some things that you haven’t used in years and no longer need. Decluttering will save you a great deal of time and money. You may well find that you can sell some of the items you no longer need. It’s also worth doing a thorough clean of your new place so you are starting from fresh.

Set Up Your Services

You will need to make sure you get a gas and electricity provider as a starting point. Make sure to compare a range of different quotes online so you know you are getting the best deal. With regards to broadband, it’s a good idea to contact them at least a few weeks before you move. That way you can avoid that annoying experience of not being able to access the internet on the day you arrive.
Obviously, there will be a lot more that you need to think about, but these are just a few things to consider when you are going through the process of moving house.
