Healthy Eatingg Tips

Healthy eating is so hard because everybody seems to have a different idea about what it means. There are so many different diets out there and people often advise radical changes like fasting or cutting out carbs completely if you want to stay healthy. It’s impossible to know what you should be eating and a lot of the foods that are labelled as healthy in the supermarkets are actually far from it because they are packed full of sugar and salt. If you’re a parent and you want to make sure that your child is eating a balanced, healthy diet, it’s tough to know whose advice you should follow.

The important thing to remember is that a lot of these drastic diets are not sustainable in the long term and the best way to eat well is often to follow some basic concepts and rules, rather than a strict regime that tells you exactly what you should and shouldn’t eat. With that in mind, here are a few simple rules to help improve your family’s diet.

Track What You Eat

Tracking what you eat is a good place to start, and there are plenty of calorie counting apps that you can use, which allow you to scan barcodes and add foods. This will give you a rough idea of whether you are eating a healthy amount of calories or if you are exceeding your daily limit. If you are going over, you should be able to see which foods are the worst offenders and you can start cutting them out on your diet. However, it’s important to remember that calories don’t tell you everything and you can still have an unhealthy diet within the recommended calorie range. You should use these trackers to give you a good idea of where you are at and identify any particularly unhealthy foods. Don’t become fixated on calories and don’t talk to your children about calorie counting because you don’t want to create an unhealthy relationship with food from an early age.

Variety Is Key

Variety is the most important thing when it comes to a balanced diet because your body needs a wide range of vitamins and minerals, as well as fats and sugars. If you eat the same things over and over, it’s likely that you will be lacking in certain areas. When you put together a meal, it should include some carbohydrates, some fruit or vegetables, some healthy proteins, and some healthy fats. You can use this healthy eating plate guide to help you out. Try to introduce a wide range of new fruits and vegetables, in particular, and look for alternative protein sources like beans. As long as you follow this rough guide, you should be able to create balanced meals quite easily.

Cut Back On Frying

We all know that fried foods are not healthy, but they are delicious and a lot of people struggle to replace them when they are making an effort to eat healthier. But it’s important that you cut back on frying if you can, and there are a few simple ways to do this. You can get some great convection ovens with an air fry setting so you can still make the same foods, but you don’t fry them in lots of oil so they’re a lot better for you. This review of the Breville Smart Air has some great information on air frying and other healthier alternative cooking methods. You should also invest in an oil spray, rather than using standard vegetable oil. It helps you to regulate the amount of oil that you use when frying so you don’t go overboard.

Cut Back On Meat

Vegetarianism and veganism are becoming more popular by the minute because of concerns about animal welfare and the environmental impact. If you are serious about eating well and reducing your impact on the planet, you may want to consider going vegan. But even if you don’t want to cut out meat and dairy completely, you should still consider cutting back on your meat intake for health reasons. When you reduce your meat intake to once or twice a week, it forces you to be more adventurous with your cooking and find things to replace it. That means you will be more likely to eat healthy proteins like beans and nuts instead, and you will be more creative with your vegetables and eat a wider range.

You don’t need to try to keep up with crazy diets to eat well, you just need to follow these basic concepts.
